At a recent team retreat the subject of renewable businesses was raised and what Morpht was doing to promote a healthy environment and planet. The conversation quickly turned to where we sourced our energy from. To that point we had not opted in to use any green energy and the outcome of the session was that we would explore green sources of energy.
Around about the same time we had been doing some web development work for the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. We became aware of the GreenPower programme which helps consumers and businesses to source green power from accredited providers.
GreenPower is the only voluntary government accredited program that enables your electricity provider to purchase renewable energy on your household's or business' behalf.
A joint initiative of the ACT, NSW, SA and VIC governments, GreenPower guarantees that the renewable electricity you buy from energy suppliers meets stringent environmental standards.
We independently audit the renewable energy sector to ensure that when you buy GreenPower, the energy you are buying is helping to develop new infrastructure in the renewable energy sector. This means that all the renewable energy purchased for GreenPower must come from generators built since 1997.
As a result, we decided to opt into the programme and to sign up Morpht for 100% renewable energy. The cost to do this was not so great. All up, stepping up to renawable energy cost us an extra 19% over what we were paying previously. Now that we have that sorted, we are able to display the logo.
Morpht has also made the commitment to purchasing carbon offsets for domestic and international flights when available.
We are really happy to have made this change to the way we work.
